About College Success Scholars
The CSS program provides structured personal, academic, and professional support to male students to ensure full engagement in all aspects of university life, emphasizing retention, matriculation, and graduation. CSS offers a five-week summer bridge program, a fall CSS UNIV 100 section, a spring seminar on professional development and leadership, weekly three- to five-hour study sessions, study groups, math and science review sessions, college success workshops, and one-on-one tutoring sessions. The scholars are mentored and supported by upper-level students who serve as team leaders. The Parents/Caretakers Involvement Group meets regularly and is actively engaged in supporting the goals of the program through advocacy efforts and fund development initiatives, including the annual CSS Gala, which spotlights program participants. The curriculum centers on supporting the brilliance of the scholars and developing resiliency, agency, purpose, and brotherhood. Contact: css@umd.edu
