Become A Tutor
OMSE’s peer tutors support the mission of OMSE by providing tutoring to undergraduate students in various academic disciplines. The position is designed to help tutees develop effective learning skills to enhance their academic success, as well as to provide coaching with comprehension of course materials. Tutors serve as OMSE ambassadors and student leaders who demonstrate and maintain academic proficiency in their respective areas. Tutors must be supportive and empathetic peer-to-peer educators who exhibit a growth mindset.
Tutors provide one-on-one or small group tutoring to help students improve their academic performance, develop independence, and build confidence. The tutors receive in-depth training, have the opportunity to earn certification, and improve their own understanding of the course material, as well as the cognitive science of learning strategies. This position provides learned experience in techniques and strategies for advancing students’ academic success.
Qualifications:
- Earned a grade of A- or higher in target course(s) taken at the University of Maryland, College Park
- Must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
- Must be an enrolled UMD undergraduate student
