La Familia was created primarily as a first-year retention program for students during their first year following admission or transfer to the university. The program helps to create a strong sense of community among students and an effective network of supportive peers for incoming students. Additionally, it gives student mentors the opportunity to advise incoming freshmen and transfer students. La Familia provides resources and opportunities available, including academic support, mental and physical well-being, and leadership development. Contact: lafamilia@umd.edu
