OMSE Tutoring University of Maryland

About Tutoring

Tutoring is one of the numerous ways OMSE fulfills its purpose of giving students the opportunity to excel academically at the University of Maryland. We have offered tutoring services since our start in the 1970s. The tutorial program serves approximately 850 – 1000 students annually. We are an officially accredited program of the National Tutoring Association.

Tutoring is free of charge for currently registered students and is available for most introductory courses, including Mathematics, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Writing, and Physics. Our model consists of small group tutoring
sessions (2-5 students) between 1-2 hours per week.

Our tutoring team consists of both paid and volunteer student tutors.

Matching with a Tutor

Start meeting with a tutor early in the semester! Although students can meet with a tutor at any time in the semester, tutoring is most effective if you begin early.

  • Tell us about your tutoring needs: Start here to request tutoring.
  • OMSE provides free, match-based, group tutoring, primarily held in-person at the OMSE office. Students who match for tutoring are expected to attend for the full semester.
  • Tutor availability is NOT guaranteed.
  • If you are matched, you will receive an email with information from OMSE tutoring with next steps.
